Standards and Expectations: St John’s CofE VC School works hard to raise standards of achievement and sets high expectations for students. Attendance: Students should aim to achieve 94% attendance each year. Students with attendance below 85% will be required to meet with their House Leader to discuss ways of improving their attendance. I In order to encourage students to attend school as much as possible, students receive a reward each time they complete 5 weeks with 100% attendance as well as House Points. St Johns CofE VC School values the importance of high attendance at its school. It recognises that high attendance maximises student achievement and contributes significantly to student progress and overall attainment at school. Uniform: We have a motto which says LOOK SMART! BE SMART! School uniform is one way in which we show the school's identity and values to the community. All students are therefore expected to wear the correct uniform at all times.
Outdoor coats should be plain and principally dark in colour without extreme or excessive logos. School shoes must be smart, black, leather shoes only. Pumps or trainers are not part of school uniform. Boots, including ankle boots such as those sold by Kickers, are also not part of the school uniform. If they touch the ankle, they are considered a boot and not a shoe. Equipment: All students are expected to arrive at lessons with the following basic equipment: Student Planner, black or blue pen, spare pen, pencil, pencil eraser, pencil sharpener, ruler, calculator. Tippex / correction fluid is NOT allowed in school. It may be useful for student to have a dictionary and coloured pencils. Students should have a suitable large robust bag to carry their school books and equipment. We run a Stationery Shop every lunchtime outside the library. Should students require any stationery (apart from calculators) they can buy it at cost price. Please note that it is also useful for students to have a USB pen drive. Homework: Homework will not always necessarily require a written task to consolidate what has been taught in lesson time. It may require reading over notes, or learning new vocabulary (often the case in Languages). Students may be required to undertake independent research or investigation. Some homework tasks may take the form of a project, coursework or a longer assignment which will require sustained effort over a longer period, this is particularly relevant in Key Stage 4. There is a member of staff on duty in the Engineering Suite every lunchtime. Students can undertake research on the computers or use the tables to complete homework in a quiet, focussed environment. |
