Message From Headteacher

Hello and welcome to the new summer term 2008, on St John’s C of E School website.

I hope you will find it useful and informative, whether you are a student or parent/carer of a child at the school or whether you are just interested in current, recent and prospective developments at St John’s.

This is an exciting time for us.  Disappointments of the past have been dramatically transformed to celebration for the present and excitement and optimism for the future.  At the start of 2006 we celebrated the achievement of Specialist Engineering College status and since then have, under the guidance of our dynamic Director of Engineering, Magda Brewin, been able to really develop an Engineering ethos in the school.  I do strongly recommend that you look at all the exciting initiatives described in the Engineering section.

In June 2006 the school was classified as a ‘Good School’ in all categories by OFSTED, reinforcing all the hard work which has gone into dramatically improving examination performance and teaching and learning at the school (for a fuller version go to the OFSTED section).

At the end of 2006 came the long awaited and exciting news from the Secretary of State granting permission for the building of a brand new school, located on the current site, but in a different part of our extensive grounds.  The completion date for construction and handover should be September 2010.  This will signal the culmination of all the tireless efforts of staff, students, parents and Governors in securing a high-specification, state of the art school to serve the local community of Epping and offer high quality education for many years to come.

We are pleased to be working with Higgins Construction PLC , the preferred contractor who has been chosen to build the new school after a long selection process.  We hope to establish a strong, mutually beneficial partnership with Higgins for the foreseeable future, not only regarding the new school project, but as a local Engineering company focusing on our Engineering Specialism.

I have been in post since July 2007 and I am committed with a very dedicated team of staff and Governors to make St John’s a centre of excellence, where standards are high and the learning opportunities we provide will inspire every student to meet the challenges of life in the 21st century.
